Let Your Kids Fight The Evil Cavity-Causing Sorceress

As a premier dentist office in the San Antonio area, we at William J. Stewart Jr. DDS Advanced Family & Cosmetic Dentistry hear a lot about the many options available to learn about how to best care for  teeth. Did you know that your smartphone or tablet could be another critical tool to help your little ones develop effective dental hygiene habits? The American Dental Association and Ad Council in partnership with 35 other organizations have developed an app that focuses on dental health; it’s called Toothsavers and the game is designed for children and preteens. Players try to save characters from an evil sorceress who inflicts cavities and other oral miseries on residents of his or her kingdom. Players also use their fingers to “clean” the characters’ teeth in the game.

“Mobile technology plays a major role in influencing young people’s behavior and is a great fit for this campaign,” says Peggy Conlon, president and CEO of the Ad Council. “We’re thrilled to release our first mobile game, which represents our ongoing efforts to use technology to promote health, education and well-being. We look forward to using this app to help kids maintain healthy oral health habits, and have fun while doing it!”

The game is also designed to encourage pre-teens to brush properly for two minutes, two times a day and create awareness about the importance of proper oral hygiene. They get to time and log their toothbrushing and there are alerts that remind them when it’s time to brush. They also get to watch engaging two-minute instructive videos while they brush their teeth (in the real world, that is). A new character is unlocked each day while a player watches a video while brushing morning and night. The free app may be downloaded at the App Store or Google Play.

At William J. Stewart Jr. DDS Advanced Family & Cosmetic Dentistry we believe that in addition to making learning about the health of your teeth fun through an app, establishing a relationship with a trusted family dentist is vital for keeping a child’s smile healthy. We can advise you on your child’s oral health, including thumb-sucking, sealants, mouth protection for sports, orthodontia, and fluoride supplementation. Our team offers advanced family and cosmetic dentistry options for both children and adults.
